Climate Tech Startups: Nailing It With Diversity

All around the world, startups are emerging to tackle the climate crisis. Startups have all what it takes to minimise the consequences and impacts of global warming. Brilliant minds, create brilliant solutions spot on. That’s what the world needs: solutions which are spot on, taking the system they operate in into account. In Brisbane, Australia, more than 30 startups pitched their ideas to potential investors and collaborators. I attended this event and in this post, you will learn about those startups and their unique solutions: to inspire you and to take action for a better world. Together we can achieve it!

There are days when I feel like nobody cares or does anything to mitigate the increasing threats against humanity. Then I remember that there are always people who made it their mission to tackle those challenges. Looking for good practice is an enjoyable way to pass the time and feel better again. Luckily, more and more Sustainability events are popping up all over the world. Loads of ideas, innovation and inspiration from people like you and me, because they care and they understand that with action comes change. Change is what we urgently need.

In August 2022, I visited the Queensland Climate Showcase organised by Climate Salad in partnership with the Office of Queensland Chief Entrepreneur.

Over 200 climate tech founders, investors and supporters attended this evening event. It was the biggest climate tech showcase in Queensland so far and I’m very glad that I attended this event. Seeing all those passionate and dedicated people pitching their ideas was a relief when it so often seems that we can’t stop the many crises.

What was truly inspiring was the diversity of solutions. It wasn’t all about carbon, but the variety of solutions to contribute to more sustainability was mind-blowing. The start-ups consisted of companies, accelerators, researchers and people. In the end, around 30 different start-ups pitched their ideas in only 30 seconds!

At first, I wanted to present only the most memorable start-ups, but to be honest: They were all great! So I decided to provide you, dear reader, with a short description of every start-up, because they deserve to be seen, heard and supported. Additionally, I added a link to all the companies so that you can easily find more information.

Ready, set, go: 30 startups want your attention!

Let’s take a break from all the greatness

We are not halfway through, but I wanted to give you a little break. To reflect and enjoy the diversity of minds who came up with such specific but necessary solutions. So far the start-ups have directly or indirectly tackled the climate crises, but most of them do so much more. It’s really inspiring to see people identifying a problem which needed a solution – and they did it.

Diversity rocks! Not only in nature but also in the startup world

Looking for funding in academia is crucial, as researchers gain the most recent knowledge ahead of governments and businesses when it comes to the impacts of humanity’s crises. It still baffles me how entrepreneurs created such a diverse solution space. It’s awesome!

Alright, the last block was a long sprint, but it was worth it. Not only are those companies contributing to a more sustainable world, but they also provide opportunities like inspiration or workplaces where people can find their purpose. Consider that this was only one event of many which are happening worldwide. If you ever feel alone and helpless due to the crises we are facing, remember that you’re not alone. There are plenty of people who tackle humanity’s crises like a boss.

7 Powerful Ways To Focus On What Is In Your Control

We feel good when we can freely spend our time on what matters most. Understandably, we get frustrated if we are not in control of our precious time. Control is a relevant topic and refers to control over others and control of yourself. The latter is a competency that contributes to your mental and physical health. Unfortunately, we don’t have much control over our lives as we have to stick to working schedules, household chores and other obligations. Acknowledging what is outside of our control and not letting it consume us is an essential step to gaining sovereignty.

How To Easily Apply Systems Thinking In Your Life

Applying systems thinking doesn’t have to turn into rocket science. The simple basis is to understand the concept of systems then you’re sweet to go. Systems thinking provides new opportunities by understanding the situation and scope of a problem. It is a holistic approach to developing solutions that fit. How to intervene and achieve the best outcomes by incorporating all aspects of a system is one of the many strengths of systems thinking. It builds a base for continuous improvement and makes it easier for us to achieve our Sustainability goals. I’m looking forward to showing you an easy approach to applying systems thinking!

The following Sustainability trends will give you an idea in which direction we are heading. You’re more than welcome to join us!

Sustainable Urban Living: Little Changes That Will Make A Big Difference

Living in urban areas is a challenge for sustainable transitions. Most cities were not built to be in balance with the natural environment. Hence, sustainable urban living is no longer a necessity – it is a must. It is not easy for citizens to live environmentally friendly and socially responsible because unsustainability is the norm in urban areas. Inefficient transport systems, massive amounts of waste, irresponsible use of energy and poor land and building management are only a few obstacles that put a heavy burden on the environment and societies. Is sustainable urban living the answer for us individuals to make a difference?
