YouTube is one of my favourite creative sources for education. Do you know if it is an unpopular opinion to prefer YouTube videos over podcasts? Does it even matter? If you are like me, you might learn best when information is visually and auditorily presented. In regard to sustainability, I realised that I like to learn from people speaking about sustainability. For some reason, it makes me feel more engaged. I can imagine action steps a lot better.

If you prefer auditory information, I want to show you a podcast I like to follow: Sustainability Podcast: WHO’S GONNA SAVE US

Back to the best sustainability TED Talks on YouTube. The sustainability topics of my favourite TED Talks are about understanding sustainability better and finding inspiration to take action. Environmental sustainability is hugely important, but social sustainability is oftentimes neglected.

#1 Defining Sustainability: Absolutely | Anjila Hjalsted | TEDxGoodenoughCollege

“When is something sustainable? Is better good enough? In this talk, Anjila Hjalsted answers that question with the newest research on Absolute Sustainability. Anjila argues that a solid, science based definition is important to avoid misleading claims and confusion about what sustainability means, and to make clear what we should be aiming for to achieve a sustainable future.” [From the YouTube description box]

#2 How to Find Joy in Climate Action | Ayana Elizabeth Johnson | TED

“We can all play a role in the climate movement by tapping into our skills, resources and networks in ways that bring us satisfaction, says climate leader Ayana Elizabeth Johnson. She suggests drawing a Venn diagram to map these questions: What are you good at? What is the work that needs doing? And what brings you joy? Where your answers intersect is where you should put your climate action effort. “Averting climate catastrophe: this is the work of our lifetimes,” Johnson says.”[From the YouTube description box]

#3 Everybody can be a sustainability leader | Annick Schmeddes | TEDxGorinchem

“Everyone can put some sustainability effort in his or hers current job and way of life. Ecoliteracy: The Foundation Of A Forgotten Love Language

Expressing love is not limited solely to human-human interactions. The natural world deserves to be loved and cared for. Unfortunately, knowledge about living within nature’s means disappeared with the rise of industrial and modern societies. Destruction and exploitation are on the daily agendas – not without consequences. Of course, new technologies are developed to tackle our global challenges. However, we cannot solve our challenges with the same mindset which created them. Huge potential lies in the principle of ecoliteracy. It is a way of understanding and appreciating how we can rebuild our relationship with nature – healthily and sustainably.

Repurposing Urban Spaces To Finally Make Them Liveable And Enjoyable

Over half of the world’s human population lives in cities. It’s expected that by 2050 68% of people will live in urban areas. Urban spaces matter tremendously in the light of sustainable development. There are many challenges to make cities more sustainable, but in this article I want to focus on the opportunities. I discovered that designing urban spaces to be more sustainable can be a very fun experience. Repurposing spaces fuelled my imagination. Therefore, instead of only one example you will get two which show how easy it is to make an underutilised space more livable and enjoyable.

The Meaning Of Sustainability: Gain A Different Perspective [Video]

The Latin script alphabet is the foundation of many spoken languages. Communication is a necessary factor to understand our world better. Consequently, the words we use reflect our knowledge, beliefs and values, thus underestimating the power of words can get us into trouble. To keep us away from trouble, I decided to produce video content to bring different sustainability ideas to you. Video content has a different quality and to create a future worth looking forward to, we need to visualise how it can look like. I want to invite you to join me on the journey towards a sustainable world.

The Rs Of Sustainability: The Most Effective Way To Apply Them

It’s not always obvious how we can achieve our Sustainability goals. A big help is principles we can use to help us. In the Sustainability space, the Rs of Sustainability have established themselves to be a successful way. Can you easily relate to the three common Rs of Sustainability: Reduce, reuse, and recycle? Sometimes I feel like those principles are not easily applicable in my life. Don’t worry, I found an effective way to personalise your own set of Rs of Sustainability. It won’t only help you to implement Sustainability easier but also embrace the diversity of what you can do to achieve Sustainability.

Why I Started My Reimagine Sustainability Blog?

Sustainability is what I dedicate to my life. For too long, I felt helpless and increasingly annoyed by news about climate change, biodiversity loss, food crises, rising mental health issues etc. It’s a lot to deal with for a normal human being. But I always believed in Sustainability, it simply makes sense to me to adapt to the Earth’s systems. Our societies developed on ideals of exploitation and destruction, but good and kind people have a voice now. Thank you, internet! It doesn’t take much anymore to become the change you want to see in this world.

Triple Bottom Line: The Foundation Of Sustainable Action And Performance

The Triple Bottom Line is a famous framework that incorporates three dimensions for sustainable decision-making: social, environmental and economic. It’s mostly used to measure sustainable business performance, but it can be applied anytime a decision has to be made. For too long has the economic dimension been at the centre of attention leading to exploitation of the social and environmental dimensions. The Triple Bottom Line encourages us to look beyond the traditional bottom line of business profit and make decisions that are socially and environmentally responsible. Sustainable development can only happen if we find the right balance between the three dimensions which benefit all of us.

ABC Of Sustainability: The Vital Role Of Words To Change The World

The words we use reflect our knowledge, beliefs and values, thus underestimating the power of words can get us into trouble. However, trouble is what we are in considering the many challenges humankind is facing. Sustainability is associated with different terms and it is our choice if the words we use bring positive or negative results. Which words does it take to make our world a better place? Let us find out!
