Shall I turn your world upside down? Do not worry. I mean it in a positive sense. I want to introduce you to different ideas on how to understand sustainability differently and better. Plus, I want to introduce you to people who inspired me to look at sustainability from a different angle. Therefore, I am excited to show you my top 3 sustainability TED Talks.

YouTube is one of my favourite creative sources for education. Do you know if it is an unpopular opinion to prefer YouTube videos over podcasts? Does it even matter? If you are like me, you might learn best when information is visually and auditorily presented. In regard to sustainability, I realised that I like to learn from people speaking about sustainability. For some reason, it makes me feel more engaged. I can imagine action steps a lot better.

If you prefer auditory information, I want to show you a podcast I like to follow: Sustainability Podcast: WHO’S GONNA SAVE US

Back to the best sustainability TED Talks on YouTube. The sustainability topics of my favourite TED Talks are about understanding sustainability better and finding inspiration to take action. Environmental sustainability is hugely important, but social sustainability is oftentimes neglected.

3 TED Talks about sustainability on YouTube

For this reason, I am introducing you to my top 3 sustainability TED Talks.

2) Ayana Elizabeth Johnson shows you how to find your role in climate action based on your skills, resources and networks. Finding joy in what you do is more effective when you want to be sustainable.

3) Annick Schmeddes highlights that the image of leaders is changing. You can be a leader, it is a skill and attitude you can learn.

#1 Defining Sustainability: Absolutely | Anjila Hjalsted | TEDxGoodenoughCollege

“When is something sustainable? Is better good enough? In this talk, Anjila Hjalsted answers that question with the newest research on Absolute Sustainability. Anjila argues that a solid, science based definition is important to avoid misleading claims and confusion about what sustainability means, and to make clear what we should be aiming for to achieve a sustainable future.” [From the YouTube description box]

#2 How to Find Joy in Climate Action | Ayana Elizabeth Johnson | TED

“We can all play a role in the climate movement by tapping into our skills, resources and networks in ways that bring us satisfaction, says climate leader Ayana Elizabeth Johnson. She suggests drawing a Venn diagram to map these questions: What are you good at? What is the work that needs doing? And what brings you joy? Where your answers intersect is where you should put your climate action effort. “Averting climate catastrophe: this is the work of our lifetimes,” Johnson says.”[From the YouTube description box]

#3 Everybody can be a sustainability leader | Annick Schmeddes | TEDxGorinchem

“Everyone can put some sustainability effort in his or hers current job and way of life. Forget about drastic changes, Annick Schmeddes teaches us how you can maximize your sustainable talents, and become sustainability leaders. Everyone can put some sustainability effort in his or hers current job and way of life. Forget about drastic changes, Annick will teach us how you can maximize your sustainable talents.”[From the YouTube description box]

Once you go sustainable, you never go back

What I enjoy about the 3 sustainability TED Talks is the compassion and positive drive of all three women to create the change they want to see in the world. Working towards sustainability is something you do because you believe in the good. You believe it is worth it. Moreover, you want to leave a positive legacy (intentionally or unintentionally).

Those are some of the reasons why I started my YouTube channel Reimagine Sustainability. Like so many, I want to share my positive outlook on how we can seize the many opportunities and create a future worth looking forward to.

Sustainability Mindset For Leaders: Inspiration For Implementing Sustainable Business Practices

Forward-thinking leaders need a vision for a sustainable future to implement into their business structures. Innovative ideas and strategies for implementing sustainable business practices are a great foundation, but they can become easily unfruitful if the team is not aligned. With a sustainability mindset, leaders can drive meaningful change and contribute to a prosperous future. They recognise that sustainable practices are not only beneficial for the planet but also for their team. Focussing on solely reducing one’s carbon footprint and minimising waste scratches the surface of the pool of opportunities. Embedding sustainability thinking into a business structure sets the tone for a new era.

Abundant Thinkers In A (Resource) Scarce World

There is enough for everyone in terms of infinite resources like love, joy, money, and success. An abundant mindset allows for positivity and resilience to thrive and this attribute is urgently needed to achieve sustainable outcomes all over the world. We are consuming finite resources like there’s no tomorrow but are very frugal with abundant resources. Funny, isn’t it? Developing an abundant mindset in the right direction will allow us to become the solution providers we need. You can see them as real heroes. I bet you can become one of them. Let me inspire you to become an abundant thinker in a resource-scarce world.

Breaking Boundaries: Reimagining Sustainability For A Thriving Future

Discover the wisdom of nature: resilience in the face of challenges, interconnectedness that binds us all, efficient resource utilisation, adaptability to thrive, and regeneration for a sustainable future. Let nature’s lessons inspire you. You can reimagine a future that draws from the timeless wisdom of nature, forging a path towards sustainable transformation. Unlock your transformative power of nature’s wisdom and embark on a journey towards a thriving and resilient planet. That is all we need: a planet that has the capability to regenerate itself and the ability to flourish in difficult situations. It is that simple.

6 Key Competencies In Sustainability For The 21st Century

Sustainable development requires societal change and societal change starts with us. If we actively decide to evolve and expand our current knowledge, skills, attitudes and values, we have the chance to become the change we want to see in the world. Moreover, we need to take action with respect to real-world sustainability problems. An effective way to make a difference is to learn about the key competencies in sustainability. Those competencies create a nurturing ground where we can build the future we want. Instead of being a passive citizen, you can become engaged and empowered. Sometimes this can be as easy as expanding your competencies.

Do Your Sustainable New Year’s Resolutions Pass The Test? Find Out More…

Following through with New Year’s resolutions is a rewarding feeling. When we stick to accomplishing the changes we want to see in our lives, we feel empowered, happy and invincible. Imagine we could use this power to make our world a better place. It is possible, but we need to do some pre-work that will bring us on the right path to greatness. Too often, we put a spoke in our wheel. It is not only bad for our self-esteem, but also for our planet which is in urgent need of sustainable action. Let’s prevent our resolutions from dissolving into hot air!

How AI Is Shaping The Future Of Food Sustainability

Let me introduce you to Reimagine Sustainability’s first guest writer: Sona Ruby Chacko. She is passionate about food sustainability and its impact on the environment. With a background in sustainable development, she brings a unique perspective to the table, exploring the intersection of technology and food sustainability. In her article about AI in food sustainability, Sona discusses the potential of using artificial intelligence to address the challenges of food insecurity and opportunities of technology in the food supply chain. Her research-driven approach and commitment to sustainable solutions make her a valuable contributor to the field of food sustainability.

Eco-Friendly Christmas Gifts For 2022: Splendid For Your Loved Ones And The Planet

During the Christmas season, our waste footprint can double. Christmas trees, food, toys, electronics, wrapping paper and ribbon bands contribute to joy under the Christmas tree, but they take an immense environmental toll. It comes as no surprise that increasingly eco-conscious people prefer to bypass the Christmas waste madness for the environment. That is why the question arises, are there any eco-friendly Christmas presents? Yes, and they do not cost the world. Although a more sustainable Christmas focuses on spending time with our loved ones, we can use the Christmas season to rethink how eco-friendly gifts can bring joy – to the people we love and the planet.

Benefits Of Embracing Sustainability With Music

Music makes the world go round. It is a vital part of our everyday lives, brings joy and helps us feel better. Moreover, music has the incredible power to affect our mood, change our outlook on life and inspire us to make a difference. You might have heard the phrase ‘Music can change the world’, so let us use music to find our motivation and change the world with our favourite tunes. I want to show you what this can look like with one of my motivational songs, which helps me to refocus and continue believing: I can do that!

Sustainability Mindset – A Mindset For A Better World

A Sustainability Mindset helps us to understand complex systems better. Through awareness about everything that’s going wrong, we create the ability to step one step back and reflect on the situation. A Sustainability mindset helps us to effectively analyse complex challenges and generate appropriate solutions. Embracing Sustainability has never been easier by applying the 12 principles of a Sustainability mindset. We don’t always need cutting-edge technology. Sometimes real change comes from within us; to create the impact we want to see in our world. Sustainability is not difficult nor hard, it’s everything good we want to create. For us, for others, for the planet.

From A Carbon Tunnel Vision To A Holistic Collaboration Approach

Sustainable development has a very carbon-heavy taste to it. It has already been recognised that we need to move beyond the carbon-only approaches; to achieve effective, sustainable outcomes. What we experience globally is a Carbon Tunnel Vision. It’s a clever play on words to highlight our selective attention on mostly Net-Zero Goals. The Carbon Tunnel Vision framework aims to open our eyes to other human and natural crises. Global warming is only one part of the interconnected crises. Let’s not get trapped and miss our chances to fight our challenges effectively. I want to show you how easy this can be by taking a more holistic and collaborative approach.
